First timer here and all I can say is WOW!!! Wasn't really sure what to expect but the AAW brings you hard-hitting action. Never a dull moment. No Hollywood BS here. Just good ol' fashion wrestling.
Matches that totally stood out were: Davey Richards d. Sami Callihan Michael Elgin d. Kyle O'Reily Both matches were back and forth constantly. AMAZING!!
Jimmy Jacobs/Arik Cannon/BJ Whitmer d. Silas Young/Irish Airborne Not sure if I ever seen anything like it. 1/2 the match was scattered thru out the stands. High intensity leading to an interesting end on who should face Silas for the belt.
These guys, as well as the others (can't leave out the rest of the roster), worked their asses off to totally entertain the fans. I've been to several WWE / WWF / WCW shows in my lifetime and I'm still amazed on the quality vs. the "big boys". GREAT GREAT job!!!!

Maybe the best first half of any wrestling show you will ever see out there. I can't say I was into the second half, because I was nodding off to sleep at times. Long day. Good, not great crowd and very good in terms of heat. There were some drunk yahoos near the public entrance and they got mad later on during the main.
They continue to open the doors late. Makes people miss the pre show. This has been going on for years. I won't even bother showing up to AAW in Berwyn until belltime anymore because of this. So the main show started late as well. I don't have this problem at Bourbon St.
Tweek's video promo talking about his beatdown on Eastman = passion. Maybe best Tweek promo ever.
Mannix vs. Miller was a real, real good five-minute match. HARD boot in the corner turned it for Miller, but Mannix looked very good on offense in the middle and made it better than I thought it would be.
Nothing technically wrong with MsChif vs. Layne, good spot for it to build Chif up for next month. Suplexes on the floor. Ouch.
Considering their manager was gone and Tweek had turned, NorthStache was a little too jokey for my taste. Not enough seriousness. Three-way tag was OK, with Raymond hitting a shooting star off the top to the floor that was insane and took a long time to set up (Raymond was slipping on the rope). Eryn got laid...out. Respect from Able/Raymond & NorthStache. Finish involved frog splash. Corbin danced for some fans.
Colt's wackness + Beck's anger + Ref's straight guy in peril mess = great times, great memories. Colt won by sub. Beck did OK. Colt's genius is being wasted when it is not on a national level. Colt asked some kid in front of me to count (good detail). He tried a moonsault and missed.
Davey vs. Sami killed it. Not exactly a kick fest, but they threw forearms at the start, running boots on the outside and beat each other up. Yes, the psychology was off at times with Davey and his leg, but not to a severe degree. Sami could take all the power moves and the end but passed out from an ankle lock? Crowd was up for it big. Should be MOTY consideration, period. Hope the tape did it justice.
Nice to see Krotch. Danny continues to play his role as angry divorcee well. Relatable. Emerson & Chif totally botched a hair-pull attack.
I'd rather Lyndon vs. Emerson was given less time and that time was given to Miller & Mannix.
Don't even remember what Iron did. He was mocked for his disability. Crane & Hollister had matching gear. No kicks for Shane.
I started to sleep during the second half. Wish I could have enjoyed Elgin vs. O'Reily more, but I was pooped. Superplex by Elgin on Reily with Elgin on the second turnbuckle and Kyle on the apron was impressive.
Lynam announced pizza prices went to $1 and Daniel Bryan "YES YES YES" chant broke out. I kid you not.
The brawling is pointless in the Eagles Club during a six-man match if you don't have the extra camera and the proper lighting to catch it all. A garbage can was smashed. Big moves hit. PBR spilt. Young, Jacobs, and Cannon all collided hard, leading to the pin. More fighting from Jacobs & Cannon later, furthering that mess. But good end to the show, getting momentum going for Bourbon St. I'd rather they had make any big title match for Bourbon St. right there and add another hook to the show instead of doing it on the internets first.
Splendid effort by everybody. Except for Sami threatening to rape Davey of something, that was a bit too much/out there.
AAW will link this review on Twitter. I doubt it will get any hits.
I hope they didn't peak too early...any extra craziness should have been saved for next month @ 115. We got a good bit of it here and it will be hard to top.

A part of me died when kayfabe died. Kayfabe was treated with reverence. It was a privilege to be smart. It was a privilege to be involved in this business. It’s not because you had $1200 and could go online and buy a pair of f'n boots, and now you’re a f'n pro wrestler. --Ed Chuman. |

Jake, doors were announced at 7:00 and 7:45 belltime. Your attendance count is wrong, yet again.

For an Eagles Club point of reference (since I sell my own tickets there), it's 67 chairs per row around the ring. Setup for AAW & SHIMMER is three rows of chairs on all four sides of the ring, plus a few additional rows in the section opposite the hard cam (near the entrance steps where there is more space). It was over 220 on Friday, by my count.

It's a thing Jake and I have, going back to 2002. He quotes an attendance figure and I give him crap for it. It was a joke between me and him.
I enjoy Jake's reviews and how he perceives the shows. He is a true fan that I have known a long time.

I don't like to take any focus away from the boys and staff who put on a great show, but need to say this for my own mental health. So I will state my peace here and be done with it.
For the record, I have removed the attendance number from the review. That is a retraction. I cannot flat out say I was totally wrong, but I did not do what I usually do and try to make a solid head count before bell time. It was an estimate. I should have stated it as such. I apologize to AAW.
In the interest of fairness, I ask Mr. Colvin to acknowledge this edit the next time he's on Twitter. He got a kick out of it there. I have made my change. I would ask him to do the same, in the interest of fair play.

That's funny, Mike. I didn't realize it was a running joke. Maybe I missed the social cue again, but I don't find it funny. Not at all. Glad you got a rise out of it, but I don't.
I don't find it funny if/when I get anything wrong. Like it or not, this board chronicles the scene. Nobody else really does. Going back to my legit journalism days, it peeves me when something is reported wrong. Not only does it make me look like a sloppy idiot, but it makes me look like I have an agenda against the fed, which is usually not the case. The only agenda I have when doing this is to state what I personally like/dislike about a show. I try to label that as opinion and don't stand in the way of any true facts. This applies to AAW, PCW, TTW, IUWA, WhateverCW.
Truth is, only the promoter knows the real draw of a show. There is no outside party or athletic commission in Illinois to count the tickets sold, comped, and take the percentage of the gate. So we're left to do the head count, because we have no way of knowing what the fed drew and no idea if the guy up front is 100% honest. I could ask AAW for the draw, but asking a rep of a business that was built by carnies that puts on play fights to marks to tell the truth is a waste of breath. You never know who is lying or not.
Unfortunately, not everybody does this head count gimmick well. I am only human. I make mistakes. I try to do better. Usually, I try to count every non-staff head I can find at a show in making an estimate. I have given up places in line to get a correct count on the number of total people standing in a line trying to get in. But people move around. It's not an exact science.
This is the third (I hope I got that count right) time I've had a problem with AAW over the show attendance. I don't find it funny. I clearly have to either do a better job with the count or just stop it altogether. My pops told me do to the job right or don't do it at all. Same rule applies here.
So if I have to show up three hours early on July 21 and count every head that walks into the Big Room at Bourbon Street to get a close-to-accurate number, then that is what I'm going to do. Or else wait until everybody is seated five minutes before the bell. Or just stop giving numbers, period. I will not continue to bear false witness on anyone, even if it is an indy fed, but people make mistakes and sin. This is not the worst thing in the world, but as a fan, it is important to me. I ask for your continued understanding. Or better yet fans, help me out and count yourselves.
If it gets to the point where I can't/won't do these reports accurately, then I would consider not coming to shows anymore, whether it be AAW or anybody else. I don't like making myself the butt of the joke. I'm tired of it. Somebody my age taking this as seriously as I do is pretty sad, anyway.
Back to the show...AAW did announce the Young/Jacobs/Cannon ladder match today for Bourbon St. Why they did not bother to shoot an angle and pop the fans and get them riled up at Berwyn and move some tickets for the show instead of waiting till today to pull the trigger is beyond me.

I can promise you I am not carnie in any way shape or form. In fact, I hate that lable. I find it offensive. So if you ever want the truth you can ask me. I run a business. Not a carnie establishment that tries to get one over on our fans or the people who work for us. So I have a little problem with that.
Besides that...the paid attendence was 224 on Friday. If you ever want a true count just ask me. Thanks.

Jim:
I was speaking (or meant to speak) in general terms about carnies & the wrestling biz, not about your or AAW. No personal insult was intended. You may be truthful, but not everybody is.
Pro wrestling is like "The X Files." Trust no one.

The latter portion of his statement is correct. I counted 223, yet there were some more people who were standing, so it may have even been more than 224, but if the man says it, that's the way it is.
I do want to reference the first part of your question, Mr. Lynam and it is directly associated with the word carnie and your statement that you are honest. I call upon that knowledge and trust as I ask you something. Who better to ask than the man himself, no?
The AAW was in a working relationship with Dragon Gate U.S.A. There were events that Dragon Gate U.S.A. held where certain AAW performers were featured. I recall Silas Young defending his championship on one such show. Perhaps there were more.
On a recent morning show, the brothers Baron mentioned that they promoted shows in association with a local group and then decided to do the Resistance Pro group. It is well known to most that they had helped promote some of these shows that had taken place at the 115 Bourbon Street venue.
This past month saw the AAW Champion Silas Young cut ties with Dragon Gate U.S.A. and be removed from their plans with news of his entry into the Ring Of Honor group. Subsequently, this past week saw the announcement that Dragon Gate U.S.A. was now promoting in a joint effort with Resistance Pro with AAW regulars on their card, Sunday, regulars like Arik Cannon, Shane Hollister, Zero Gravity, et cetera. The Resistance Pro group also had a match of their own on the show.
I would like to ask you the status of the relationship between Dragon Gate U.S.A. and the AAW. Professionally speaking. Not personally speaking, because in business there can be peaceful parting of working agreements, or there can be dirty laundry, which I am not trying to dig into, even though this will probably tempt some on this board to try to ignite a fire. I ask that you ignore them if they rear their heads, as I will.
I would like to ask you as to the status of your group and Mr. Sapolsky's group as far as co-promotional efforts. Is there a working agreement still in place? Or is there no agreement at this time and they are working with the other group?
If I may ask one more question as far as the AAW name also. I was ridiculed for referring to your company as All American Wrestling and a dust storm erupted over it with people crying foul, saying that your group is AAW Pro Wrestling Redefined. If that is the case then why is your group listed under the name All American Wrestling in various internet listings, such as pwbts.com?
In closing, I want to make mention of the fact that the AAW far outshines Dragon Gate and Resistance Pro. This is not a knock on Resistance because they are a fine group but as yet they are still new. Dragon Gate does not hold a candle in any way, however. I'm not knocking them but I am greatly distressed over their style and it is not what many old-timers consider wrestling.

Independent wrestlers are independent. They work for whomever they want. No individual promotion owns them.
Gimmick accounts are lame.
